innate elements

Innate Elements differ from class to class, and from person to person. However for your character, it should be only one. Don't confuse these elements with the ones the Black Mage and Magus may cast - their elemental list is limited - with innate elements, it can be nearly anything.

Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, Sound, Lightning, Ice, Metal, Crystal, Light and Dark

However, every element could mean different things to people. I won't name it here, as I want you to incorporate it somehow - who knows, you might bring even more depth to a character if you pick one that seems unlikely for your character. If you can think of another one, please leave the reason why in an explaination in a sidenote beside the element, in brackets - however, I would prefer that you stick with these unless you have a spectacular reasons.

Symbolism

At the very least, an innate element could just mean that this element means more to you than the others - your character feels a draw, a connection to it. Sometimes, nothing more than that. This is the most common relation one would have towards their innate element.

Character

Elements, on this matter, would have a lot to do with personality, and perhaps even battle technique - the way someone moves, acts and speaks, perhaps.

Effect on Mist

Generally, if one has an affinity towards one element, if they were to be attacked by magic of a certain type, your innate element would either defend or amplify damage made by such an attack. Since Mist flows through everything, this could also have a bodily effect on a person; how they react to certain temperatures, altitudes, or situations.

ie's and mist classes
(White Mage, Devout, Black Mage, Magus, Conjurer, Summoner, Blue Mage, etc.)

Elements have a much broader meaning and application with Mist-based and mixed classes. Since the rare classes are just that - rare, it's unknown of innate elements and their effects on their powers (so this just means it depends on if someone applies for a rare class, and we'll discuss it from there).

For White Mages and Devout, Water seems to be the most common innate elemental affinity - the second most common would be fire. Reasons for this is beacuse Water is considered a healing element, and fire is sometimes used to purify.

Since Black Mages can weild all the elements known, there IS a relation between mist and innate elements. Of the four basic elements, Black mages have a spell they're most skilled with, two of which they're averagely skilled with, and one they are under-skilled with, or barely cast at all. The spell which the Black Mage is skilled with most is usually their innate element, because they respond to that kind of 'energy' so to speak. Once one advances to Magus levels, the differences between spell strengths is lessened, and almost non-existant. The Magus can overcome innate elemental barriers and cast spells with equal and greater strength.

Conjurers and Summoners however, work mostly with the innate elemental barriers which correspond to the class they were working towards before their discovery of their abilities. Innate Elements can also effect which Scielans Summoners can cast most often.

Blue Mages and Red Mages would work much like Black Mages - if an enemy skill depended on a certain element, it would operate much like a Black Mage casting a spell.

Geomancers' magic depends on the terrain, so their innate elemental lean would be towards the earth anyways. Their magic is rooted in the earth, and would find most effectiveness in attacks when working with earth, plant, vine etc. magic.

Mimics borrow on innate element relation when mimicing abilities - and this mainly has to do with how powerful the spell was cast. Mimics not only borrow on the abilities themselves, but the innate elements of the casters; if the Mimics have an innate element which is opposite or corresponds to the castor's own, then he or she might have trouble using such an ability.

As you can see, mist-caster or not, innate elements can have as much or as little influence on your character as you want it.

If all of this is confusing, please read it again slowly. If you're still confused or if you need something clarified, make a note of it on your application, and we'll figure it out.

how come my character can't be super powerful?

One, because you just can't,
Two, because it's not fair to the other players, and
Three, because I said so.

There are only a few exceptions to this rule.
Mainly, because you spoke to a mod beforehand, and you had permission, because it was important to the development of a character, and it was allowed. Remember, you only have control over what YOUR character does.

can my character have two classes?

Yes and No.
Yes, because there's a group of classes in the 'mixed' category, and due to the wide variety of classes we have, what you were thinking might already be covered.
Say you want a Warrior and White mage? That would be a Paladin.
A White AND Black mage? That would be a Red Mage.
No, because I don't suggest mixing the classes already than they have been, and there's a lot of choices as to what your character could be, so there shouldn't be a problem.
In the society of this world, mixed classes are discouraged, and I would prefer that we stick with what class perameters we have.

are there other races besides hume, viera and elvaan?

There are a lot of races in the world of Final Fantasy, so the answer would be a resounding yes! Since I only have three basic races (besides the magical beings normallly in any Final Fantasy), there's a lot of wiggle room, although I'd prefer most of the characters be a balance of the three already here. Please search a page like at FF Compendium (link) for Species/Race listings, and please find the race closest to what you had in mind. If there's any problems, don't hesitate to contact the mods.

can I make up my own race?

If you can't find a similar species to one which already exists in the canon of the series, then please make a section after your character's bio outlining the species. Their apperance, habits, habitat, culture, anything which you can tell me about the race so I can look it over, and have as much information as possible.

why should we alter the clothing according to class?

Good question! Because a person's class is a thing of pride! You'd WANT to show it off and tell the world 'I'm (class name here)!".

how come some sections require long answers?

Well, the short answer would be, that I busted my ass making up this world, so you should bust yours to make a great character for it! The long answer would be, that you should put thought and emotion into making a character - a real well-rounded, thought out character for the rpg; flaws, strenghts, weaknesses, and that includes a whole and in-depth history and personality information. The more effort and originality you put into it, the more that will make me go 'Oooo', which will increase your chances of getting in!
