history

pre-history

  • The first crystals form as physical avatars of a sort, to the Ben-Navi's mist (Suzaku, Shinryu, Byakko and Genbu) who were all born from the Planetary Soul.

  • Scielans are born, however their specific origin is unknown.

  • Commanded by the Scielan Bahamut himself; Humes, Viera, Elvaan are all protected by the Wind Drakes, under the wisdom of the Hiryuu.

  • Magic further develops, as do all classes, or jobs, over the world.

10,000 - 1 BCE || Inkina - Seritu Era
  • Records of this time have been destroyed, thusly giving it it's name of the Inkina-Seritu Era. From what could be gathered from shards of evidence all over the world, that a significant catastrophe took place on the western continent, turning it into a frozen wasteland. The Ancients disappeared, and the lands fell into chaos.

1 - 550 CE || Vorqueu Era
  • Without the structure that the Ancients provided for the world, a huge debate erupted within the royal and mist-gifted families of the world as to who would take the Eclessia's place for the direction of the world, society collapsed. In an attempt to reach the Eclessia in their new home, and to avoid bloodshed, many engineers crafted up inventions to reach them, yet all of them have failed and resulted in many deaths.

  • With all hope of reaching the Ancients gone, it began a grim era now known as the Ascension Wars. Around 20 different families from all over the world battled one another on several hundred occasions to prove which was the strongest, and in the world's eyes, deserving of leading it.

  • In the chaos of the next 500 years, no victor was seen, while society tried to recover from it's loss. Family after family were massacred by the other, leaving only a few survivors of 4 (two large, two small) of the original bloodlines involved. One of the two families dropped out however, named Valfea, seeing no point for bloodshed any longer and re-evaluated their role in the world.

550 - 1875 CE || Hatcia Era

  • In the next 700 years after that battle, gave way to a new era; when 6 gifted people helped the world in one way or the other - some called these people the Gift of the Ancients, as no one remembered the original names of the leading race in the world. None of them knew each other personally, or were around at the same time, yet all of them are revered for contributing to the world as they did.
    These people, now called 'Venia', were (in order of birth);
    Hirena - the Holy Mist Venia - she rediscovered White Magic when she hid in a cave at night with a large crystal in the middle of a spring, to escape a group of monsters after her. She learned how to wield the mist, was able to heal her daughter, Finna, and developed the spells we know today. Her family line can be traced to this day, yet they reside mostly in the north.
    Djan - the Great Warrior - barely in his teens, he was able to stave off an invasion in his hometown from a neighbouring village. Son of the Village Chief, he was able to unite the two villages, and establish peace - a great example for the rest of the world in the midst of Chaos. The two united villages are now named after him; Djannos.
    Sonoah - the Black Mist Venia - Resurrected the lost art of Black Magic. He travelled the world as Hirena did for White Magic and revived the lost art.
    R'ddyn - the Heretic - Once belonged to a widespread religious movement, broke from the Monastery to travel the world. Having much influence, the Trasall'min clergy put a ransom on his head, yet he did so many good deeds, no one attempted to call in on it.
    Zaphirah - the Mist Caller - Three generations after Hirena, she was the first one to be discovered within the White Mages to have a connections with Scielans, for several years earlier she began to hear their voices speak to her. Later, she became noteworthy for the first to find one of the fallen Summoners' Espers (the term for a Mundane Scielan), and sent it back to where it belonged - thusly, she became bonded to it.
    Cerec - The Teacher - Once a mercenary by trade, he became known when he rescued a group of war-orphaned children from an enemy encampment. He later, along with his wife Sera, set up a school specifically for the orphans caused by the constant struggles of the Ascension Wars, which still thrives today as a centre of great learning.

  • The World was nearly restored to it's former glory, with the retirement of a barter system, to introduce the Gil as currency.

  • A discovery of a hypothesis of Hirena's was implemented, therefore the Shakai'ana Ikasera ritual was born. Every year, a group of White Mages and Summoners, would gather in all towns of the world and bless the central spire of the town with mist energy, thus increasing it's power. It would not only help the mist flow more easily from one point to another, but it would increase defence of the town from nearby demons and monsters. If a Shaman would exist at the time, she or he would go to the world's capital.

  • Adventurers discovered a previously sealed off city, rumoured to be one of the Ancients' former cities untouched for centuries; advanced technology mixed in with the old architecture, with a high concentration and flow of mist. Thus was born the clan of the Engineer, dead formerly for nearly a millennia, they now concentrate on duplicating, if not reviving the old technology to learn more about those who once lived there.

  • Shortly after that discovery, the Viera were once again seen as a part of the normal populace, however the reasons for this are unknown, and the Viera tend not to speak to those not of their race. It's a common occurrence to those Viera who leave the wood for an extended period of time for the tips of their ears to turn a shade of dark brown, as their ears slowly grow deaf to the Green Word.

  • Eventually, the world forgot the time before the collapse, the following wars, and the Ancients. Several of the Ascension families still exist however, although they aren't as violent as they were before.

1875 - 2165 CE || Aleraka Era

  • A central government was finally established on one of the main continents, called 'The Caltoh Central Government'. They wish in the future, to unite the entire world under this law to establish order globally. Hume, Elvaan, even a Viera or two were incorporated to ensure the interests of all races were attended to.

  • Infuriated, the remaining 'Ascension' clans rebelled against the government, however due to their numbers, were defeated by this new common order among the common people. Between the remaining families however, the tension came to a boiling point.
    A final battleground was decided upon. The battle was so extreme, that all but two small families were left alive, the others having killed one another senselessly. Blood covered the battlefield, and at the end of the day, nothing remained but remorse. Those who survived hid for years, and weren't heard from in generations.

  • The next 200 years saw great improvements in medicine, government, sciences and technology, thanks only to the new social order established. Medicine became more complex and advanced with the development of new bandages and balms, salves and potions, and hundreds more cities joined the new government, much to the joy of those already joined.

  • Another major difference seen was that ancient technology was more and more present in daily life. The most common of these are weapons and the strange automatons, yet however in the major cities, automatic devices were installed which were found and duplicated from ancient machinery. There are a few dozen areas left to be united in the central government, however these reasons are to preserve their way of life and culture.

  • The first Mimic and Berserker emerged at this time, however they weren't alive for long. No one knows if these classes still exist, however, it shows the ingenuity that can be found every day in the populace. This reason and many more give hope to the world, and is a good sign that the world is going in the direction in which it was supposed to.

2165 - 2360 CE || Emareis Era

  • A prophecy was 'discovered' at this time by a man named Iberen, that if all the mist was summoned at once by ones who 'command the mist', then the Ancients will notice this and possibly return. Even though this would make them vulnerable, nearly half all White Mages, Black mages, and Summoners gathered in a vast plain near to the floating continent. In the middle of using their magic, a monster descended from the skies and killed them all, causing for tens of Scielans to be stranded in the mundane world, and they would eventually turn into Espers (even though the majority of summoners sent their Scielans back to their world with their dying breath).

  • 150 years later, Airships were rediscovered, some even buried beneath the sands of the desert. This gave raise to the production of similar ships, which to this day provide transport for the common folk. Not one airship to date has been able to be made strong or fast enough to reach the Floating Continent.
